“Sneakers” have come a long way from the dirty “all-purpose tekkies” that used to reside in the back of your cupboard.
One pair, two if you were extravagant, for anything from a game of tennis to a night on the town. They walked with you, from cinema to courtside, from disco to date night, they formed a comforting hug around your feet with many stories to tell.
Well maybe not all that much has changed.
Except that, now, sneakers or “kicks” if you prefer are the center piece of urban fashion. They reflect our personalities, our moods, a true reflection of the person who chooses to run, dance, live, play, work – walk a thousand miles in pursuit of greatness.
In a recent article on Tealmagazine.com the “Rise of Sneaker Culture” is unpacked (pardon the pun) in greater detail, with the estimated size of the global sneaker industry estimated at $55 billion a year.
That’s more billions than the average government official can make disappear into thin air – so that’s saying a lot.
Ill-informed joking aside, “From Keds to Air Jordans, Chuck Taylors to Poworamas, sneakers have come a long way. Today, some of the most cutting-edge designers create stylish “kicks” with an appeal that extends beyond the streets and onto the runway.”
YOU are trending
Say what we will but everyone makes judgement calls based on first impressions. And it’s not something new, “a side-effect of an image-driven society” as our parents would say. It’s been going on for decades and one of the first things people notice about you is . . . drumroll please . . . your shoes.
“If eyes are the window to the soul, then shoes are the window to your style,” quotes Realmenstyle.com. “Consider shoes an investment. Spend what you can on a few good pairs and wear them with confidence.”
